Some parts of Osogbo, the Osun State capital have been thrown into complete black out after heavy rains last Friday destroyed the Odi Olowo sub-station.
Punch quotes the Osun Zonal Communication Officer of IBEDC, Mrs. Kikelomo Owoeye, on Wednesday as saying that the first rain of the year, which fell last Friday, damaged some poles and other equipment at the sub station.
She said the company had started repairs of the damaged facilities but another heavy downpour on Tuesday slowed down the work.
She said: “We want to assure you that our men have been on the field working on the rehabilitation of affected poles in Osogbo Business hub and the Headquarters is also aware which will speed up the repairs.
“However, the work was slowed down due to another down pour that was experienced on Monday 10, February, 2015 and in order to safe guard the lives of our men, we have to slow down the process. Despite that, we are on top of the situation in every way to ensure our teeming customers enjoy power supply.
“We want to appeal to our teeming customers to also play safe at this period as they make use of their electrical appliances to avoid any incident of electrocution or power surge which may lead to any inferno.
She also advised consumers to always switch off their appliances whenever they were leaving their homes.
