A post-graduate student was allegedly tied to her bed and set ablaze by her boyfriend in Uganda.
Immaculate Kebirungi was found dead in her rented apartment in Bugolobi, a city suburb in the wee hours of Thursday morning. Her room was set ablaze in what appears to be an attempted cover-up.
Police stumbled upon Kebirungi body as they rushed to put out the fire after being alerted by the neighbours.
A reliable police source who was part of the team that put out the fire said that they found Kebirungi’s lifeless body lying on the bed with her hands and legs tied with ropes.
“She had even been covered with beddings. Luckily the fire was not so much and did not burn everything in the room,” the police officer said.
Detectives from Jinja Road police station went back to the scene and picked up two friends of the deceased whose identities have been withheld.
The Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire, says the two are helping police trace the deceased’s boyfriend, Solomon Okello who is suspected of her death
Witnesses interviewed claim that, the deceased had refused to move in with her boyfriend who has been paying her tuition, a move that prompted the action from him.
Kebirungi’s body was taken to Mulago hospital for a postmortem to establish the cause of death.
