The Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, his wife, and son escaped an assassination attempt in the early hours of Tuesday.
A statement by his Special Adviser on Media, Uche Anichukwu, said the incident occurred at about 4:00 am on Tuesday at their Apo Quarters residence in Abuja.
The armed men were said to have discreetly evaded the security and entered his house.
Thereafter, they took hold of his son, and commanded him to lead them to the Senator’s bedroom.
While in the senator’s bedroom, a struggle ensued after which some of the men escaped.
One of them was, however, arrested.
According to Anichukwu, the arrested member of the gang refused to divulge any information on the operation. He has, however, been handed over to the police.
Recall that the lawmaker narrowly escaped an assassination attempt on his life in Abuja on November 17, 2015.
