The Court D’Apeal in Porto Novo, the capital of Benin Republic, has released Mrs Ropo Adeyemo, the wife of Yoruba nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho.
Chief Yomi Alliyu (SAN), the lead counsel to Sunday Igboho, disclosed this to Newspeaonline on Thursday evening.
Ropo, who is a German citizen, has also been given her passport.
He said: “The wife has been released and given her passport. As I am talking to you, the court is still sitting in Port Novo now.
“The Nigerian Government did not file anything on extradition, they just filed to give information to court that he is wanted in Nigeria for gun running and some other offences.
“They only filed information for the court to keep him in custody while they file charges against him.
“They just want the court to help them ensure he doesn’t leave Cotonou and help them keep him in custody and no court would do that.”
However, the court is currently sitting on the charges against Igboho.
