The Returning officer of Saturday’s governorship election in Osun state, Joseph Afuwape, has declared the election inconclusive.
Accordng to INEC’s offcial results declared on Sunday, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Senator Ademola Adeleke polled 254,698 while the All Progressive Congress (APC) candidate, Adegboyega Oyetola polled 254, 345 votes.
The difference between the two candidates is 353.
Iyiola Omisore of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) polled 128,049 votes to place a distant third.
Afuwape said that since the difference between the two leading parties was just 353 votes but the number of cancelled votes was 3,498, no winner had emerged.
“Unfortunately, as the Returning Officer, it is not possible to declare any party as winner,” he said.
The date for a rerun between the two leading candidates will be fixed by INEC
The affected local governments are Orolu, Ife North, Ife South and Osogbo.
