The kidnapped chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nasarawa State, Philip Shekwo has been found dead.
Unknown armed men abducted Shekwo from his residence in Lafia, the state capital, on Saturday night.
They were said to have exchanged gunfire with the security detail attached to the APC chairman before whisking him away.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Bola Longe, who confirmed the incident, had earlier on Sunday said his men are combing forests and flashpoints to ensure that Shekwo is rescued.
But on Sunday evening, Raman Nansel, spokesman of the Nasarawa State Police Command, disclosed to journalists that Shekwo had been killed.
“We discovered his corpse today and it has been taken to the morgue for post mortem examination.
“Investigation has begun. We are determined to unravel the cause of the incident,” he said.
