Morocco became the first African country to qualify for the semi-final of a FIFA World Cup after defeating Portugal in the quarter-final.

A 43rd minute goal by Youssef En-Nesyri, coupled with resolute defending, was all that was needed to ensure a 1-0 victory over the European team, on Saturday.

Morocco will meet the winner of Saturday evening’s other quarter-final between France and England, in the semi-final.

The introduction of five-time Ballon d’Or winner, Cristiano Ronaldo, in the second half did little to help Portugal’s cause as the Europeans find it difficult to create clear cut chances in the game.
