There is an ongoing pandemonium in the Gate area of Ibadan, after a mobile policeman reportedly shot an okada rider in front of Agodi prison.
Newspeakonline gathered that the policeman demanded money from the Okada rider but he declined. In the ensuing argument, the mobile policeman attempted to tear gas the okada rider which prompted him to hit the policeman on the hand
The policeman thereafter shot the okada rider in the eye.It was however gathered that the okada rider is still alive after he was rushed to University College Hospital by his colleagues and men of the Nigerian Army who were trying to settle the fight.
It was learnt that the policeman ran into the armoured tank parked in front of Agodi prison and his colleague tried to whisked him away from the scene. But the armoured tank was pursued by okada riders and in the process, the armoured tank lost control and hit a motorcycle and a tricycle, popularly called keke napep in Isale Alfa area, injuring four people.
The developments made the okada riders to block all the roads around Gate and set bonfires on the roads.
As at the time of filing this report, men of the Nigerian Army, Operation Burst and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps are trying to restore normalcy in the area.
Meanwhile, the Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, SP. Gbenga Fadeyi when contacted on phone said none of its officers fired any shot “contrary to the currently trending news online, that police men fired shots leading to injury at agodi gate area this morning.”
“The truth is that there was a clash between officers of the correctional service and bike men stationed at Agodi -Gate, upon receipt of this information, police men as well as other security agencies moved to the scene to ensure there’s no break down of law and order that could lead to coordinated attack on the prison facility,” Fadeyi said.
He, however, said that further development will unfold and be communicated to journalists latter.
