President Muhammadu Buhari has decorated the new Inspector-General of Police, Abubakar Adamu Mohammed.
The ceremony took place at the State House on Tuesday afternoon.
Mohammed’s appointment follows the retirement of Ibrahim Idris today.
The new police chief who hails from Nasarawa State, was born on November 9, 1961. He enlisted in the police in 1986. He has a bachelors degree in geography.
He was at one time a director of peacekeeping operations. He is a former police commissioner in Enugu and was an AIG in charge of Zone 5.
Before his appointment, he was at the National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies, Kuru, near Jos, Plateau State.
Being an AIG, his elevation and appointment might cause the retirement of several Deputy Inspectors-General (DIG) who were higher in rank. The same scenario played out in June 2016 when Buhari appointed Idris as IG.
