Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo says President Muhammadu Buhari was not aware of the plan to arraign the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Walter Onnoghen, until Saturday evening.
Osinbajo said this on Wednesday while speaking at the third Online Publishers Association of Nigeria (OPAN) conference in Abuja.
“I feel very sad that is going on at all,” the vice-president said.
A petition was written by Dennis Aghanya, a former aide of Buhari, accusing the CJN of not declaring his assets following his appointmnt.
Onnoghen was to be arraigned on Monday at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) but he was absent when the sitting began with his legal team led by Wole Olanipekun (SAN) telling the CCT that his client was not properly served the summons.
Same day, a Federal High Court in Abuja issued a restraining order asking the CCT and other concerned bodies to stop the arraignment for now.
