The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has suspended the nationwide protest it had planned to hold on July 11, 2018.
CAN President, Rev. Samson Ayokunle Olasupo, had on Thursday, asked Christians to embark on a peaceful protest nationwide on July 11, to register their displeasure over the inability of the Federal Government to tackle the insecurity in the country.
He also declared July 9-11, has also been declared National Day of prayer and fasting against the activities of suspected herdsmen that had led to the deaths and destruction of property.
But barely 24 hours after the directive, a statement issued by the CAN President’s media aide, Pastor Bayo Oladeji, announced the suspension of the exercise due to some circumstances beyond the association’s control.
He, however, said that the 3-day prayer and fasting will still hold as scheduled for July 9-11, 2018 in all churches and state chapters of CAN.
The umbrella body of Christians in Nigeria had expressed worry and disappointment that President Muhammadu Buhari had refused to heed calls to overhaul the country’s security architecture in the face of the massive killings and crimes all over the country.
