The operatives of Special Anti-robbery Squad and Ambush Squad of the Nigeria Police, Oyo State Command, has arrested a two- man gang of armed robbers that specialized in snatching exotic cars especially Toyota and Honda in the state.
The arrested armed robbers were on Thursday paraded at the state police headquarters.
According to the police, one of the gang members, who was identified as Femi Lawal was arrested in Eruwa, Oyo state while entering Ibadan, the state capital with a Toyota Highlander decorated skillfully for wedding to deceive security operatives with an inscription, ‘Groom’ to beat security.
The suspect, Lawal said his friend introduced him to the crime business to able to fend for himself saying for every car he steals, he is given N100,000 as proceed. He also said they sell Toyota Highlander at N700,000 to dealers.
The Oyo Commisioner of Police, Mohammad Katsina said Lawal’s arrest and subsequent interrogation led to the recovery of one Toyota Highlander Jeep which the gang had earlier snatched at gun point from one “Mrs. Wolimat” who Lawal called his sister at Idi-Iroko, Ogun state.
The CP added that the police recovered from the gang a Toyota Camry Muzzle and a Honda EOD saying that Mrs. Wolimat had been contacted to come for collection with prove of ownership while other sister agencies are advised to be vigillant on vehicles approaching under such camouflage identity.
He said interestingly, the victim, Mrs. Wolimat had been a benefactor to Femi Lawal, the suspect who they have lived together for more than three months but the suspect turned the woman’s magnanimity into her peril.
