CHILDREN’S DAY: Hon. Dapo Lam Adesina distributes computers, books, others to pupils…. holds quiz/debate competition

Hon. Dapo Lam-Adesina, the lawmaker representing Ibadan North East/ South East Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives on Friday, Children’s Day, gave out desktop and laptop computers as prizes for a quiz and debate competition he organised for schools within his constituency.

Twenty-seven public and private primary and secondary schools were represented at the event held at the Emmanuel Alayande Hall, Ibadan Grammar School. The participants, numbering more than 50 all went home with prizes including laptops, books, school bags and stationeries, apart from the trophies and computers going directly to the schools.

Speaking after the distribution of prizes, the lawmaker explained that the initiative was geared towards the development of future leaders, especially on a day when the whole world is celebrating them.
He said that “a lot of the talents were discovered today and they need to be encouraged because they can do greater things”.

He added:

“It is all about contributing to the development of education as well as the development of our future leaders. And I am really impressed with what I saw today. It shows that the future is bright and I am encouraged to do more. At least I made sure I personally monitored everything from the preliminary stage to the finale, to ensure that no one was cheated. So, there is more to come through the Omo Oloore Educational Support scheme”

A total of 27 primary and secondary schools, both private and public, took part in the quiz and debate competition. For the contests, they were divided into four categories – private primary, public primary, private secondary and public secondary.

At the end of the quiz contests, Ebire Creche, Nursery and Primary School, Felele, won the private primary category; Ayodele Samuel Primary School won the public primary; Lagelu Grammar School won the public secondary while George and Duke College won the private secondary category.

The hotly contested debate had the following as winners: First place, St Leo’s School I (public primary); Oyinlola Group of Schools (private primary); Educare Comprehensive College (private secondary) and Yejide Girls Grammar School, Yemetu, (public secondary). An overall scoring for the secondary category put Yejide in first place, Eyinni High School in second place and Educare Comprehensive College in third place.

Present at the event were the State chairman of the All Progressives Congress(APC) Akin Oke, represented by Chief Goke Oyefuni; a representative of the permanent secretary of the Ministry of Education; APC state secretary, Hon. Mojeed Olaoya; Caretaker Committee Chairman of Ibadan South East Local Government, Abbass Nojudeen as well as executives and members of the state Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT) and ANCOPPS.
