A 23-year-old fuel attendant, Faith Emeka, allegedly absconded with the petrol station’s money after selling 1,156 litres of petrol.
While arraigning the accused on Tuesday at the Ikeja Magistrates’ Court, the Prosecutor, Insp. Essien Ndarake, said that:
“The accused sold fuel within five hours and disappeared with the money to unknown destination.
“All efforts made by the management of the filling station to find and retrieve the money proved unsuccessful as she refused to pick her calls.
“She was later arrested with the aid of her roommate but the money was not recovered”.
According to Insp. Ndarake, Emeka committed the offence on March 28 at Conoil Filling Station, Fagba, Iju, Agege, Lagos.
Ndarake said the accused sold the petrol valued at N100, 000 between the hours of 5 a.m. and 10 a.m. and disappeared with the money.
Ndarake said that the offence contravened Section 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
Section 285 provides that if convicted, the accused is liable to three years imprisonment.
The accused pleaded not guilty and was granted bail in the sum of N50, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
The Magistrate, Mrs E. Kubeinje adjourned the case to April 12 for mention.
