The United States(US) announced on Saturday night that it will restrict travel from the UK and Ireland from next week, widening a travel ban which initially included countries in the European Schengen free travel area.
Vice-president Mike Pence added that Americans and US legal residents in the UK and Ireland can still “come home.”
The US had recently banned flights from European Schengen free travel area from coming into the country for 30 days.
Spain imposes lockdown
Spain is imposing a lockdown on the country’s 46 million population as it seeks to contain one of the fastest surges in the world in the spread of coronavirus.
Under the measures, announced on Saturday night by Pedro Sánchez, prime minister, people will not be allowed to leave their homes other than to buy food, pharmaceuticals, or other necessary products, or unless they have a compelling reason such as caring for the old or ill, travelling to a health centre, or essential work, including for financial institutions.
