Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibadan Zonal office, have arrested a 34-year old woman for allegedly defrauding another woman of N45 million in a spiritual cure scam.
The suspect, Mrs Aminat Okiribiti, it was learnt, belongs to a four-member syndicate, three of whom are currently at large.
The victim (name withheld) said the syndicate offered spiritual solution for her children’s health challenges.
She said she met the suspect’s husband, Wande Sesan Okiribiti, 47 (still at large) in October 2014 at Utako, Abuja while in search of the cure.
She said Wande posed as a local herb hawker and a spiritualist, luring her into believing he had the solution to her problems.
But after making different payments totalling N45million as advised, the request for more money did not end. That was when she discovered that she was being duped. She then sent a petition to the anti-graft agency.
In her confessional statement, Okiribiti said she collected some of the money from the victim through her bank account
The EFCC said Aminat would be charged to court as soon as investigation is concluded.
