Justice Mohammed Idris of the Federal High Court in Lagos on Thursday convicted a formal official of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Mr Christian Nwosu of bribery.
Nwosu who was an Administrative Secretary with INEC in Kwara state was first arraigned on April 5, 2017 by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission(EFCC) on a six count charge along with two other officials, Yisa Adedoyin and Tijani Bashir and the former minister of petroleum, Diezani Allison-Madueke, in absential.
Justice Idris adjourned sentencing until Friday by 12noon to enable Nwosu to be present.
Recall that he entered a plea bargain with the EFCC after his arraignment which the court rejected and was later re-arraigned by the EFCC on March 7, 2018 on an amended nine count charge bordering on money laundering to the tune of N264,880,000 along with Bashir and Adedoyin, who had earlier been convicted.
He had pleaded guilty to receiving a N30million bribe from Allison-Madueke to compromise the 2015 elections.
