Multichoice, operators of DStv and GOtv, have been ordered by the Federal High Court in Abuja, to stop the increase of its subscription rates which commenced in August.
The Consumers Protection Council (CPC) disclosed this in a statement by its Director General, Babatunde Irukera.
According to the statement, the interim order given by Justice Nnamdi Dimgba prohibits the increase of the cable TV subscription rates pending further hearing and court orders.
The statement said: “For clarity, the current, valid and prevailing rate for DStv and GOtv services are the rates that were effective as at July 31st 2018”
Subscribers who have paid the new rate may not get their money back until the court finally resolves the issue. The CPC however said in a tweet that new subscriptions will now be at old rates valid as at July 31.
