Oyo State Governor, Engr, Seyi Makinde on Monday disclosed that the COVID-19 patients being managed at the state’s isolation facilities are cases with only severe symptoms or cases that can’t self-isolate safely at home.
The governor stated this in a post on Twitter while giving update on the COVID-19 situation in the state.
He said that based on the protocols the state COVID-19 Task Force has been using to manage confirmed cases with satisfactory outcomes, the state’s isolation centres are only managing the two categories of patients.
“A significant number of the confirmed cases have mild to moderate symptoms, and so those who can self-isolate at home safely are allowed to do so,” he said.
The governor also said the COVID-19 confirmation tests for 52 suspected cases came back positive.
According to Makinde, the cases are from Ibadan South East (12); Oluyole (8); Egbeda (6); Ibadan South West (5); Ido (3); Ibadan North East (3); Ibadan North (3); Ona Ara (2); Lagelu (2); Saki West (2); Itesiwaju (2); Ogbomosho North (2); Ibadan North West (1); and Ibarapa North (1) Local Government Areas.
With the development, the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Oyo State is 912.
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) data showed that Oyo State currently has 621 active cases, while 282 patients have been discharged. The state has has also recorded nine COVID-19- related deaths.
