President Muhammadu Buhari has warned that his administration will not hesitate to punish those seeking political gains from the country’s security challenges.
He issued the warning at the Presidential Villa on Friday while receiving the freed Dapchi schoolgirls.
Stressng that Nigeria has suffered “enough of hostility”, he said the “government is ever ready to accept the unconditional laying down of arms by any member of the Boko Haram group, who show strong commitment in that regard”.
He added: “May I also warn against those elements who have chosen to make political fortune of our citizens’ misfortune. Government would not tolerate any attempt by any person or group to trivialize or politicize security issues for politically motivated ends. Accordingly, security agencies would not hesitate to decisively deal with such unscrupulous characters”.
The president urged Nigerians to embrace peace for the overall development of the country and its people.
Earlier, the Director-General of the Department of State Services, Lawal Daura, said that the social media and utterances of those incompetent to speak on the matter almost marred efforts to rescue the girls.
