The Delta State Police Command has orderd restriction of movement across the Niger bridge linking Asaba, the Delta state capital and Onitsha, the commercial hub of Anambra State.
The police said the move was “against the backdrop of the forthcoming guber elections in Anmabra State slated for Saturday November 18th 2017, and the need to prevent any security breach”.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, Delta Command, DSP Andrew Aniamaka, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Zanna M. Ibrahim orderd that vehicular movement through the Niger Bridge be restricted with effect from 12 midnight of Friday November 17 till after te elections.
The statement said that “only those on official and emergency duties with genuine means of identification will be allowed passage during the period of the restriction order”.
