A 57- year-old woman has been brutally mauled to death by a large pit bull that got loose in her neighborhood.
Karen Brown, was on her way to help a woman who lived down the street on Saturday when the dog attacked her, biting her in the neck and on her body.
It was reported that two responding officers shot and killed the dog when it charged at them on getting to the scene.
The incident happened at South Deering neighborhood on the Far South Side in Chicago.
Brown was taken to University of Chicago Medical Center where she died from the injuries.
The residents of the area say the pit bull was a known problem in the neighborhood. Police are still trying to locate the owner of the dog.
On Sunday night a vigil was held for Brown where more than 100 people attended.
