John Legend has criticised rapper, Kanye West, for visiting US President-elect, Donald Trump at the Trump Tower on Tuesday.
Legend, a vocal Trump critic, said Trump had used Kanye as a “publicity stunt”, adding that he was disappointed with the rapper for saying he would have voted for Mr Trump.
Legend’s annoyance may have been compounded after Kanye followed up the meeting by tweeting an autographed copy of TIME Magazine’s “Person of the Year” issue which had Trump on the cover.
In an interview with France’s Clique TV, the singer said: “I don’t think it’s impossible to talk to him about issues, but I won’t be used as a publicity stunt. I think Kanye was a publicity stunt.
“I’m pretty disappointed with Kanye that he says he would have voted for Trump. I think Trump has been corrosive, his message has been corrosive to the country. I think the things he’s promised to do have been very concerning for a lot of people, and for Kanye to support that message is very disappointing”.
He added that no matter what had been West’s reason for attending this meeting, he did not agree with him: “Whatever’s in his mind, I disagree with him.”
Asked about what they discussed at the meeting, Trump said: “Just friends and he’s a good man. We’ve been friends for a long time… We discussed life”.
Recall that Kanye had indicated interest in running for president in 2020.
Recall also that Legend, a very good friend of Kanye, as well as Jay and Beyonce, (Kanye’s close pals too) openly campaigned for Hillary Clinton while also openly criticising Trump during the campaigns.
