Angry APC senators stage walk out
Opposing senators of the All Progressives Congress (APC), on Wednesday could not stop the screening of Musiliu Obanikoro for a ministerial position.
Inspite of he fierce opposition and rowdy session, Obanikoro was asked to “take a bow and go” – a preferential treatment for former senators.
The Senate thereafter confirmed him as a minister to be sworn in alongside seven others by President Goodluck Jonathan.
His renomination by President Goodluck Jonathan is being opposed by senators of the APC over his role in the use of soldiers alleged to have manipulated the 2014 governorship election in Ekiti state.
Senator Gbenga Ashafa from Lagos had raised a point of order challenging Obanikoro’s screening saying that Obanikoro has a pending case in court. He read from a copy of The Nation Newspaper saying that Senate President David Mark and the PDP were joined in the suit.
But Mark ruled him out of order, saying the court is yet to serve him, saying, “You don’t serve me on the pages of the newspaper. As far as I am concerned, there is no case in court, so I rule you out of order”.
More to come…
