Lawyers and police clashed in the premises of a court in India on Wednesday.
It was learnt that the police had detained a suspect, Moosa Haiderani Khosa illegally. The court bailiff raided the police station and recovered the man.
District Bar Association President, Ahsan Karim Meerani, told The Express Tribune that Moosa was produced before the court which ordered his release.
However, Meerani said, “When Moosa came out of the court room along with his lawyers, the police tried to arrest him again in another case in the premises of the court.”
He pointed out, “The lawyers told the police that they could not arrest anyone in the premises of the courts. However, the police did not listen and used force to nab the man.”
He said in the meantime other lawyers also gathered at the spot and a scuffle broke out. He added in protest against the maltreatment meted out by the police, the legal fraternity announced to boycott court proceedings.
He said after the intervention of the higher police officials and senior lawyers, the matter was resolved. Later, the responsible policemen were suspended for misbehaving with lawyers in the courts premises.
