One of the leading aspirant in the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2022 Ekiti State governorship election, Basorun Reuben Famuyibo, has allayed fears that the entrance of former Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Biodun Oyebanji, into the race will jeopardise the interest of all other aspirants.
Oyebanji resigned on Tuesday, citing his intention to contest next year’s governorhsip election as the reason for his decision.
Many stakeholders immediately interpreted his resignation as a confirmation of the suspicion that he is Governor Kayode Fayemi’s candidate, meaning that other aspirants in the party have slim chances of picking the governorship ticket.
But speaking on Wednesday, Famuyibo said that Oyebanji’s entrance into the race should not be a source of worry to anyone because the people of the state will decide who they want to govern them.
He said every Ekiti indigene is free to contest because Nigeria practises democracy.
“Ekiti people will decide, not the government. Let us re-affirm our belief that Ekiti belongs to all of us. There is no need to fear any government candidate, if any,” he said.
