Coach Emmanuel Amuneke’s U-17 team last night in Chile, successfully defended the world cup title they won two years ago in the United Arab Emirates, defeating African champions, Mali 2-0 in the final.
Speaking after yesterday’s final, Amuneke admitted the job was not done yet as he hopes to help the players achieve a higher goal that has been recorded.
“The players will go home now but their journey is not over yet. Personally I’m really happy. I have football in my blood, as a player and as a coach. This is what I want to pass to my players.“
His statement is seen as hint that he may lead Nigeria to the FIFA U-20 World Cup in South Korea where winning Nigeria’s first title at that level is a priority.
This comes despite the fact that the NFF had said last week that the 44-year-old tactician will be retained as U-17 coach.
