Yan Carrière-Swallow and Vikram Haksar, writing last week on the International Monetary Fund blog (IMFBlog), stated “data is information, so collecting and trading it creates and shifts information across companies and consumers—for better and for worse.”
According to the writers, the value of data gets unlocked when many firms or researchers can access it and then compete to innovate and generate knowledge. That innovation and knowkedge s what Dolapo Amusat, a young data analyst, says practitioners in the entertainment industry need to remain relevant in the future.
“The intersection of creativity and data is an area that’ll be very pivotal in the future” a young data analyst, Amusat said in a brief chat with journalists recently.
The University of Ibadan graduate of Electrical Engineering, stated that the future of entertainment depends a lot on data and how the practitioners make use of them, saying that the current focus of his firm is to create products to help creatives and brands use data to better their businesses.
Amusat who leads a team of young people to use technology to aid creativity, from designing graphics to websites to simple software to data analysis, is the co-founder at WeVisualize, a data visualization community focused on connecting people and sharing knowledge on data analysis and visualization with young Nigerians.
He encouraged undergraduates and fresh graduates to consider careers in data science saying that online education can prepare interested persons.
On how he made the seamless transition into data science and analyss, Amusat who graduated in 2016 said he has taken nanodegrees and courses from online learning platforms like Udacity and EDX. Altnough he points out that his degree in Electrical Engineering gave him a foundational outlook on the potentials of digital technology and its applications across several industries.
