Former Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Azubuike Ihejirika, has formally joined the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Ihejirika, who served between 2010 and 2014 under President Goodluck Jonathan, joined the APC on February 16 at his hometown in Isuikwuato, Abia North Local Govermment of Abia State.
Receiving Ihejirika in Abuja on Friday, the Chairman, APC National Caretaker Committee and Yobe State governor, Mai Mala Buni, said the entrance of the former Army chief into the party will bring the South East closer to the centre.
Buni described the development as a “great moment” for the party.
“The coming of Gen. Ihejirika will increase the fortunes of the party in Abia State and the South East generally.
“This is a great moment for the party as Gen. Ihejirika and other sons and daughters of the region are coming into the party to deliver the region and bring the South East closer to the centre. We look forward to more of APC presence in the South East,” Buni said.
Ihejirika was presented to the APC caretaker chairman by Jigawa State governor,Abubakar Badaru and chairman APC strategy and contact committee, Farouk Aliyu.
