Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila has emerged Speaker of the 9th House of Reprsentatives. He recorded a landslide victory in the election held on the floor of the House on Tuesday after during the inauguration of the 9th National Assembly.
Gbajabiamila (APC, Surulere Federal Constituency of Lagos) scored 283 ovotes to defeat his only rival, Hon. Umar Bago (APC, Chanchaga Federal Constituency of Niger State) who garnered 75 votes.
Three hundred and fifty-eight representatives were present.
In 2015, Gbajabiamila, contested for the same position but lost to Hon. Yakubu Dogara. He was eventually appointed the House Majority Leader in the 8th House of Representatives.
He was sworn in immediately after the election which was conducted by Clerk of the National Assembly, Mohammed Sani-Omolori.
The event with essed several rowdy episodes with arguments breaking out occassionally amid chants of “Gbaja!”, “Wase!” by supporters of Gbajabiamila.
Immediately after his votes were counted, Bago went across to congratulate Gbajabiamila.
