President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the establishment of a Federal College of Education in Iwo, Iwo local government area of Osun State.
A letter addressed to Governor Adegboyega Oyetola and signed by the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Education, Arc. Sonny Echono, said the establishment of the institution was to address the emergency education needs of the country particularly in the states where such federal institutions do not exist.
The letter stated that a Technical Team from the Federal Ministry of Education (FME) and National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE) would be visiting the state to review and inspect the location from 11th May, 2020 to facilitate early take-off.
The Permanent Secretary also urged the state government to accord the members of the team necessary cooperation as they liaise with state officials (Hon. Commissioner and his Team) to ensure adequate arrangement for the commencement of academic activities by October, 2020.
Iwo town, which is the headquarters of Osun West and an ancient city with prominent indigenes, has no federal or state owned tertiary institution at present.
