The Federal Government has set up a technical committee to tackle the persistent violent clashew between the herdsmen and farmers in the country.
The committee is chaired by the Director General, Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR), Professor Oshita O. Oshita.
A letter signed by the Acting Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Alhaji Muhammadu Maccido, said the committee would develop a suitable roadmap for an expanded stakeholders’ meeting.
It is also expected to outline a tentative strategy to deal with the conflict vis-à-vis the methodology for an open stakeholders’ forum; identify the problems underlying the conflict from regional and national perspectives and identify regional and local laws and regulations that impact the conflict,” the letter addressed to IPCR’s Director General said.
In his response, Oshita said the formation of the committee demonstrated the genuine commitment of the present administration to ensure a more peaceful and secure country.
According to him, every Nigerian is expected to make useful contribution and support the government for the progress of the country.
