The management of Fidei Polytechnic, Gboko, Benue state on Wednesday shut down the school indefinitely following a violent protest by some students.
Eyewitnesses said that trouble started after school management stopped some students from writing their semester examinations which started on Tuesday. The students, it was gathered, had paid their school fees but had not collected their payment receipts.
A report by community newspaper, Idoma Voice, said that appeals by the students fell on deaf ears as management maintained that students had enough time to conclude all registration processes before the commencement of exams.
The newspaper reported: Out of frustration, some of the students took laws into their hands by breaking some of the school properties. The policemen that were invited to maintain law and order were attacked by the irate students.
