People believe marriages are meant to last a lifetime but many don’t due to several factors.
Unsuccessful marriages are prominent in the entertainment industry globally and Nigeria is not an exception.
There are few Nigerian celebrities who have had a taste of this. While some have moved on with their lives, preferring to focus on their career and other things, some are still willing to give marriage a shot.
Here are give celebrity marriages that ended between 2021 and 2022
- Paul and Anita Okoye
Paul Okoye is a singer. He became popular as a member of the famous singing duo, PSquare.
On March 22, 2014, Paul married Anita Isama, whom he met in 2004 during his undergraduate days at the University of Abuja.
In August 2021, the sweet music became sour as Anita filed for divorce due to irreconcilable differences. She also accused him of infidelity.
Paul and Anita have three children.
- Yewande Adekoya and Abiodun Thomas
Yewande Adekoya is a Nigerian actress and filmmaker. In 2013, the Nollywood actress got married to Abiodun Ishola Thomas. The union is blessed with a boy and girl.
In April 2022, Yewande’s eight years marriage crashed over alleged infidelity on the part of her husband and several counts of emotional torture.
She said she had been a victim of emotional abuse for 14 years, long before they were married in 2013, stressing that Ishola Thomas has never treated her right.
She said: “For 14 years, I have been our financial backbone. I never for once complained. All I wanted was for him to grow up and act responsibly. I continued to beg him to show me love, treat me right and act responsibly.”
- Chacha Eke and Austin Fanni
Charity Eke is a Nigerian actress, popularly known as Chacha Eke, from Ebonyi State.
Chacha Eke got married to a movie director, Austin Faani Ikechukwu, in 2013. The union produced four children- three girls and a boy.
In October 2020, the Nollywood actress made a video, telling her fans that she was done with her marriage to Austin Faani. But five days after making the video, she did another one telling her fans that she has bipolar disorder and that she is still with her partner.
In June 2022, Eke via her Instagram page announced the end of her nine-year marriage to Faani. Sharing a picture of herself and husband on Instagram, the actress said that she didn’t want to die or go missing.
The announcement, titled, ‘Leave now or leave as a corpse’, read: “Many have died pretending all is well whilst wishing, hoping and praying for a better tomorrow. I don’t want to ‘die’ or go inexplicably ‘missing’.
“I sincerely and publicly apologize for living a lie these past years. True to random speculations, there has been trouble in my ‘perceived paradise’.
“For the second time in two years, I am here again on social media boldly declaring that I am done with my marriage, “
However, Faani in a post on his Instagram page said that he has never laid his hands on his estranged wife or any woman.
- Funke Akindele and Abdurasheed Bello
Funke Akindele is a famous Nollywood actress and producer of the popular television series, Jenifa’s Diary.
On May 26, 2012, Funke married her first husband Otunba Adeola Kehinde Oloyede, a union which crashed after few months, due to what they called difference of opinion, lack of agreement, and infertility at the period.
In May 2016, the actress married rapper Abdulrasheed Bello, aka JJC Skillz, in London. The marriage produced a set of twins (boys) in December 2018.
On June 30, 2022, JJC Skillz announced via his Instagram page that his marriage with the award-winning actress had come to an end.
Although JJC Skillz didn’t give any reason for their separation, there are rumours that the marriage may have crashed over alleged infidelity on the part of the rapper.
- Kalu and Ijeoma Ikeagwu
Kalu Ikeagwu is a British- Nigerian actor.
The couple met at a movie location in Port Harcourt, in 2005, where Ijeoma was hired as a make up artist for the actors and became friends.
The couple, who dated for three months, married in 2016 and have two children.
In 2021, Ikeagwu filed a suit seeking the dissolution of his five-year-old marriage to Ijeoma.
The actor told the court that his wife denied him sex and poured water on him while he was asleep.
