All is now set for the final showdown on who will pick the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship ticket between the lawmaker representing Oyo Central Senatorial District, Sen. Teslim Folarin, and a former deputy governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Chief Adebayo Adelabu.
Although there are five aspirants in the race, credible sources told Newspeakonline that the battle is solely between Folarin and Adelabu.
Until last night, the identity of who the chairman of the governorship election primary committee was unknown, even to some of the aspirants.
The national leadership of the party had on Thursday night announced a former Lagos Senator, Tokunbo Afikuyomi as the chairman of the primary election commitee, following the removal of Chief Hillary Amodu, the chairman of the committee that conducted the local government congresses.
Folarin and Adelabu’s camps have been at loggerheads over the control of the party’s structure in the state. While Folarin’s camp controls the state structure of the party led by a former commissioner in the state, Mr Isaac Omodewu, Adelabu’s camp, led by Alhaji Abu Gbadamosi, is believed to be enjoying the backing of some powerful people in Abuja.
Fingers are now crossed on who will emerge victorious at the governorship primary, scheduled to hold today (Thursday) at the Obafemi Awolowo (formerly knows as Liberty) stadium, Oke Ado, Ibadan.
