It emerged on Wednesday that former Deputy Governor of Oyo state, Taofeek Arapaja and some other bigwigs of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state have concluded plans to defect to the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC).
A chieftain of the party, Hon. Gbenga Adewusi a.k.a Arole told NEWSPEAKONLINE at the venue of their meeting on Wednesday that they have perfected all arrangements to move to the APC.
The politicians met at the Felele, Ibadan home of the former deputy governor, where the decision was taken.
According to Arole, all the group is waiting for, is word from Governor Abiola Ajimobi to accept them into the party.
His words:
The outcome of our meeting is to follow what our leaders asked us to do. We are in the processing of moving down to APC.
The leader of the team in Oyo state is Amb. Taofeek Arapaja while we have former President Olusegun Obasanjo as leader at federal level.
We have met with Gov. Abiola Ajimobi on this and the direction was from chief Obasanjo to support President Mohammadu Buhari’s government.
He added that the decision will be formerly announced to the general public when the team concludes discussion with the APC leadership in the state.
Arapaja’s defection may just be one of the many “political movements” resulting from the decision of his former boss, former Governor Adebayo Alao-Akala who moved to the APC in December 2015. It also marks a further decimation of the PDP in Oyo State
Alao-Akala had first sought refuge in the Labour Party after leaving the PDP on the eve of the 2015 general elections.
