Suspected Fulani herdsmen over the weekend attacked four communities in Taraba State and killed no less than 44 people, Sylvanus Giwa, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor Darius Ishaku on Media, said.
The state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Shaba Alkali, who addressed journalists on the matter however said 15 people died and that only two communities were attacked.
Alkali said gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen attacked the communities of Dori and Mesuwa, in Garbabe ward, Gashaka local government area on Sunday killing 44 people and sacked two communities.
But the Taraba government said the affected communities are Dorei, Angai, Maisuma and Fali.
A source from the communities told Blueprint that most of the people killed were women and children, adding that all the houses in the two communities were razed down.
Confirming the incident, said the alleged sponsor of the crisis, Ardo Ayuba, had been arrested and was paraded by the police, but he denied involvement in the entire incident.
