The Euromoney Awards for Excellence held during the week at the London Hilton Park Lane. The Award, which s considered the most coveted and competitive in the global banking industry, is organised by international finance magazine, Euromoney magazine.
For the first time in the 27-year history of the awards programme, a bank outside the US and western Europe emerged best bank in the world.
Singapore-based bank, DBS was named world’s best bank. Presenting the award to DBS’s chief executive, Piyush Gupta, Euromoney’s editor Clive Horwood explained that “DBS was chosen for this award because it represents what we believe a bank should look like today.”
According to him, “no other institution has worked so hard to embrace and lead digital disruption; and while some banks demonstrate their technological prowess with impressive apps, DBS does so by embedding digital innovation into everything it does – with a tangible positive impact on the bottom line. It has achieved this with a clear-sighted focus on sustainability that positions it well for the years ahead.”
Organizers said almost 1,000 submissions were received from banks from about 100 countries.
