Five students from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Ibadan (UI), have been awarded the 2023 World Veterinary Association (WVA)/MSD Animal Health Veterinary Student Scholarship.
The scholarship was awarded by the World Veterinary Association (WTA) in recognition of their academic achievements and it would aid the development of their academic and future veterinary careers.
These students emerged from a list of eight winners in Nigeria and each of them would receive $2,500 to aid their educational development.
Announcing the winners in a statement, WVA said: “WVA and MSD Animal Health are delighted to contribute to the advancement of the global veterinary community through the empowerment of veterinary students who are the future of the veterinary profession. We would like to thank all the veterinary students who submitted applications and encourage those who didn’t receive it to apply again in 2024.”
Congratulating the students via a post on her LinkedIn page, the Dean, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Prof Olufunke Ola-Davies, expressed confidence in the future of the profession.
“We are proud of this great feat and assured that the future of our young Veterinarians is indeed bright.
“Congratulations to the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Ibadan,” she wrote.
The students who won the scholarship are:
1. Okewale Olalekan
2. Egbuemike Chisom
3. Ahmed Saheed
4. Olowu Babatunde
5. Goodness Adayemi
The others students from Nigeria who were also awarded the scholarship are Idris Nahimah, Victor Ameh and Deborah Ajay.
