The crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) assumed a new dimension on Wednesday as the party’s Presidential Campaign Council constituted its campaign committee in Oyo State.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by the Director General of the PDP Presidential Campaign Council and governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal, the name of Governor Seyi Makinde, who is a member of the G5, was missing
The G5 comprises governors opposed to the leadership of the party. They had distanced themselves from the campaign of the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, insisting that the resignation of Senator Iyioricha Ayu as PDP national chairman is the only condition to work for Atiku.
Led by Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, other members of the G5 are Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu), Samuel Ortom (Benue), Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia) and Makinde.
According to Tambuwal, the campaign council in Oyo State was put together after wide and extensive consultation with all stakeholders.
Tambuwal urged members of the committee to justify the confidence reposed in them by the presidential candidate and other stakeholders by working for the success of the party at the polls.
