It was a funny scene at the Oyo State High Court on Monday when a judge ordered the “detention” of a phone because its owner flouted the court rule.
The rule is that whenever the court is in session, phones are expected to be switched off or put in silent mode.
The judge had expected the man, who had come to court to witness a proceeding, to end the call when he entered the court room but to the judge’s chagrin, the man kept on talking.
The judge then ordered that the phone be seized and the man be brought forward.
For not denying what he did and after a lawyer begged on his behalf, the judge gave him two options; that one of them will be detained. The man later agreed that his phone be ‘detained’. He was asked to come for it the next day.
