Kano state governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, over the weekend empowered tea sellers (Mai Shayi) in the state.
At the presentation ceremony, Ganduje disclosed that his administration spent N208 million to buy noodles, tea, eggs, beverages, milk, baskets, cups, kettles, nylon bags, spaghetti, and other materials for 5,200 tea sellers.
Distributing the items to the beneficiaries drawn from the 44 local government areas in the state, Governor Ganduje said each of them would also receive N40,000 cash as take-off capital.
He said: “We are empowering 5,200 tea sellers. We are empowering them because we want to increase their economic well-being. We are empowering you to improve the economy of Kano. We are empowering you to improve sanitation in your services; we are empowering you to improve the nutritional value of your services. We are empowering you because of the multiplying effects of this kind of programme.”
