“God is merciful to us in Nigeria. And we must be merciful to one another. We should not fight one another. We are brothers. We are better, stronger together”
Those were the words of the Presiding Bishop, Sword of the Spirit Ministries, Wale Oke, at the 35th convention of the church which was concluded on Sunday.
While addressing reporters at the sidelines of the convention, the man of God urged the various ethnic groups in Nigeria to shun calls for secession and talk about how to be stronger nation.
He however pointed out that there is nothing wrong in engaging in renegotiating the terms of unity if the situation calls for it.
He said: “We may need to sit and discuss and negotiate our unity. Let us jaw-jaw and not war-war. Nigeria should remain one indivisible entity where every Nigerian has equal opportunity. If we need to talk, that is not a problem. But let us not talk of separation. God bless Nigeria.”
The week-long programme was rounded off with an all-night prayer programme at the Liberty Stadium (now Obafemi Awolowo Stadium) in the city Friday night and a thanksgiving service at the church headquarters, Olaogun on Sunday.
Speaking on the theme: “Walking on God’s Covenant,” Oke explained that God is forever faithful to His covenant once He establishes it.
Citing copious biblical verses including Psalm 89:34-35, Gen. 17:6, Ps 105:8, Rev. 1:5 and Rev. 19:11, Oke referred to God’s covenant with Abraham which He keeps till the present time.
He said God always manifests Himself as their fighter, healer, deliverer, saviour and helper of those who operate in God’s covenant.
He urged people to accept the grace and mercy offered by Christ, stressing that it is the way to enjoy a peaceful and prosperous life and enjoying an assurance of eternity.
