A member of the House of Representatives representing Nnewi North and South Federal Constituency of Anambra State, Chris Azubogu, has been kidanpped by gunmen.
Azubogu, a three-term mamber of the House of Representatives was kidnapped on Thursday in Nnewi. His driver was also killed by the gunmen.
The federal lawmaker is a former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate before defecting to the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Abuja, on Wednesday.
Also, gunmen invaded the Ajali Police Station in Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State, setting the building and branded campaign vehicles ablaze.
While some policemen were reportedly killed, the number of casualties recorded during the attack could not confirmed.
The gunmen reportedly stormed a funeral ceremony at Ukpo, Nnewi South Local Government Area, and collected arms from security operatives at the occasion, before heading to Nnewi town where they kidnapped the lawmaker.
According to reports, candidates in the forthcoming governorship election in the state have gone into hiding following the development.
