Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have abducted the mother of Super Eagles midfielder, Samuel Kalu and her whereabouts is still unknown.
According to reports from Aba, Kalu’s mother was driving with some of her children along the Okpulu Umuobo area of the city last week when the unidentified gunmen blocked her vehicle, ordered the children out of the car and took the woman away.
It was reported that the kidnappers initially demanded a N50 million ransom, but later upped the prize, as they believe they could get more from the player.
Reports say the family had been in negotiation with the kidnappers since last week.
Sources say the winger who plays for Girondins Bordeaux in France is worried about the whereabouts of his mum after the kidnappers demanded a ransom for her release.
It is unclear if the woman is being held in Abia State or has been moved to another state.
Samuel Kalu is not the only Nigerian player to have a relative kidnapped in recent times.
During the Russia 2018 FIFA World Cup, Super Eagles captain, John Obi Mikel’s father was abducted in Enugu ahead of the game against Argentina
The former Chelsea midfielder was asked to pay £21,000 before his father could be released, but it could not be confirmed if Mikel paid the ransom.
