Gunmen on Wednesday invaded the house of late Chief Moshood Abiola in Ikeja area of Lagos State, carting away property worth millions of naira.
It was gathered that the gunmen gained entry into the house around 4a.m. through the back gate.
A statement by the family also confirmed the incident, but added that no one was harmed.
The family said the incident had been reported to appropriate authorities and investigations were ongoing.
“In the early hours of this morning, burglars entered the house of Chief MKO Abiola. They made off with some items. The appropriate authorities have been informed and investigations are ongoing. We give glory to Almighty Allah that no one was harmed,” the statement released by the family read.
Also, a resident of the area who spoke with The Punch said: “Armed robbers invaded the house of the late MKO Abiola in the Opebi area of Ikeja. They carted away a lot of valuable items.
“The operation occurred around 4a.m. when the security guards were asleep. They dug the ground of the back gate and gained entry. They carted away property and escaped.”
It was learnt that the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, had paid a visit to the family.
According to Odumosu, some arrests had been made, adding that investigation had commenced into the incident.
“Three people were involved in the operation and from what I gathered when I visited the house today, only one of the suspects was armed. The suspects gained entry through the canal because the building backed the canal and I was told that some pieces of jewellery and money were stolen. I have beefed up security in the area.
“None of the residents, including his wife, Bisi and two girls were attacked or injured during the operation. We have made some arrests and commenced an investigation into the incident,” the CP said.
