The stage for an epic presidential battle between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump in November is gradually being set following results of Tuesday’s primaries where five major states went to the polls.
Mrs Clinton defeated her rival Bernie Sanders in all five states – Florida, Ohio, Illinois, Missouri and North Carolina – in the Democrats primaries.
On the Republican side, Marco Rubio has dropped out of the race for the White House after losing his home state of Florida its critical winner-take-all primary on Tuesday to Donald Trump.
Rubio announced to his supporters at his campaign headquarters in Miami:
“While it is not God’s plan that I become president in 2016 — or maybe ever — while today my campaign is suspended, the fact that I’ve even come this far is evidence of how special America truly is”.
“I want to congratulate Donald Trump on his victory, a big victory in Florida”
The Florida senator dropped out of the presidential race after a brutal several weeks, lagging behind both Donald Trump and Ted Cruz in delegate counts and in numerous polls.
