Reports have it that the Commissioner of Police for Ekiti State, Mr. Taiwo Lakanu, has been redeployed, just two days to the House of Assembly elections in the state.
The police headquarters is yet to announce formally but sources told Newspeakonline that the Inspector General of Police, Suleiman Abba ordered the redeployment of Mr. Lakanu on Wednesday.
While official reason for the redeployment is still being awaited, it is believed that his removal may not be unconnected to the current breakdown of law and order in the state following attempts by All Progressives Congress lawmakers to impeach Governor Ayodele Fayose.
The situation had led to mayhem in parts of the state on Monday and Tuesday.
During protests on Tuesday by Fayose supporters, a man, Modupe Olaiya, was shot dead in Efon Alaaye.
Olaiya’s death became a subject of controversy with Fayose accusing the APC lawmakers of being culpable in a petition he sent to the IG.
Lakanu is however being accused of conniving with Fayose to get the lawmakers arrested and prevent them from entering the House of Assembly complex.
