Metro UK reports that the boy, born to a mum in New Zealand, measured 57cm long and is almost double the size of the average new born.

It was gathered that while doctors had initially predicted the baby would be large, both medics and his parents were shocked at his size.

The boy was born by caesarean section at Wellington Hospital after it took doctors three hours to administer the epidural.

The parents preferred not to be identified, though the baby boy’s father told Stuff.co.nz: ‘We are not that tall ourselves, so we are not sure where his size comes from.’

Their older son weighed 11.8lbs at birth.
