Accord House of Representatives candidate for Oluyole Federal Constituency and immediate past ALGON chairman in Oyo State, Prince Ayodeji Abass-Aleshinloye (MDII), has urged Nigerians to exhibit patriotism and selfless service on the occasion of the country’s 62nd Independence Day anniversary.
Aleshinloye, in his Independence Day message, said the commemoration must not be lost on anyone, but should be another opportunity for Nigerians to rededicate themselves to the pride and service of the nation as exemplified by the founding fathers.
He said there was need to rekindle the flame that ignited the determination of the founding fathers to fight for and obtain independence, coupled with the pride they had in serving the country.
“There was no better time than now to reawaken the waning glory of the nation,” he said.
While urging Nigerians to use the celebration to strengthen the country’s unity, the former Oluyole Local Government chairman said: “In the face of our challenges, there are still things to be thankful for as a nation. It is better to use this occasion to focus on the things that unite us, while moving away from issues that drag us backward in our quest to be a progressive nation.”
The most distinguished Ibadan indigene called on Nigerians not to allow the country’s current challenges to threaten “our co-existence but we should rather see the challenges as possibilities.”
He regretted the prevailing trying moments in country’s history, asking citizens to unite in the face of these differences and called on the nation’s political class to advance democracy, peace and prosperity through mutual interest based on shared democratic values.
“We are a nation blessed with diversity and young population. Harnessing them with a thriving private sector will set us on a path of prosperity and provide the right environment for more investments.
“The task of making Nigeria great is a collective responsibility by all Nigerians. Various arms of government have their responsibilities, while as citizens, we have ours,” he said.
Aleshinloye also re-assured the people of Oluyole Federal Constituency that his accord for progress and duty calls will not fail to liberate them, meet with their expectations, restore material wealth and ensure a fulfilled quality representation of the constituency, if elected.
